About the client

ISIC is the only globally recognized document proving the status of a student at primary, secondary school, high school and higher education. The ISIC Association has been issued under the auspices of UNESCO for over 60 years in 135 countries around the world. Students can enjoy more than 150,000 benefits, services and exclusive discounts. GTS Alive s.r.o. is the licensing authority and the official issuer of the ISIC card for the Czech Republic, which has long been evaluated as the country with the largest spread of ISIC cards and the widest offer of student benefits.

It's a challenge

In addition to the cards, the ISIC International Association also operates the ISIC App, which serves as a card organizer and a tool for finding discount offers. For its own business needs, GTS Alive in the Czech Republic provides its application called Alive App, which offers similar functions, as well as local competitions and travel insurance. This application is used by more than 150,000 users in the Czech Republic. In 2022, with the global shift to digital ID cards, the company decided to redesign the app to better suit the new workflow and make it more attractive to a more demanding user base. With this task, they turned to us as leading experts in UX design and research.

The solution

In moderated user testing, we tested an existing app with real users to gain valuable insight into their needs and issues. Based on this, we made several interactive prototypes, which we tested in subsequent rounds. After we gathered enough data, we started designing the final concept with stakeholders. In it, we put emphasis on meeting user expectations, attractiveness of design and overall efficiency of subsequent development. Throughout the process, we communicated with both the product owners and the development team. The result was an application that fulfilled our design intention in detail and exceeded the expectations of both users and stakeholders.

How we approached it

User research

The client understood very well the importance and importance of user testing. We organized a focus group where we identified the problems of the solution to date, and scheduled three additional user tests spread over key phases of the project.

Prototyping

In GTS Alive, they wanted not only to redesign the existing application, but also to add brand new features, such as a new card management and QR scanner. That's why we put a lot of emphasis on creating hi-fidelity prototypes, which we carefully tested and iterated with the users.

Design and communication with developers

We managed to imbue the app with a new attractive face using playful image materials as well as a modern minimalist design. Throughout the design phase, we actively communicated with the developer studio and modified the design to make it as efficient as possible in terms of development intensity while not compromising the overall user experience.
